St. Patrick's Day Inspired Cocktail
Soooo TODAY'S the day we all pretend we're a wee bit Irish so we have an excuse to drink. Some might ask Why? is this particular day such a big drinking day- and others will look at you with judgment for asking (no judgement here). In case you are asking that, let me hit you with a little bit of knowledge.
St. Patrick was a very popular Saint in Ireland and the day began when he died on March 17, 461. The celebration was a religious feast and that is where the drinking tradition began. Christianity is traditionally on lent during this celebration but they were given a pass on this special day- which lead to the heavy drinking. Which brings me to my St. Patrick's inspired cocktail!
Now if you aren't a fan of Green Beer, or Whisky (Irish whisky to be exact), I have just the Green drink for you! I call it a White Irish- a play on the traditional White Russian.
- Melon Liquor
- Irish Cream liquor (optional)
- Milk or Heavy Cream
- Mint (optional)
Depending on your taste buds you could really mix this drink any way! Which is what makes this drink so great. I did two parts melon liquor, to one part vodka, one part Irish cream, and one part milk. I added a little crumpled mint leaves and a sprig on top for a garnish. If you aren't a fan of Irish cream, substitute that for another part vodka.
This is the perfect festive drink if you aren't a fan of the traditional options on St. Patrick's day. It's not to sweet, it's not to harsh, it's just right.
As always drink responsibly and let me know what you think if you give this a try!
