Maple Apple Toddy

Maple Apple Toddy

Thank the fall leaves it's Friday! You've work hard all week and deserve a break. What better way to unwind a hectic work week than with a cocktail? **Not much

With the cool fall nights ahead of us nothing warms the soul quite like a hot drink. One of my favorite drinks for a crisp fall & winter night is a Hot Toddy. A classic Hot Toddy consist of whisky, hot water, lemon and some sugar. I of course had to put some fall sparkle into this recipe.

Pumpkins, often get all the glory of the fall fruit. Apples though, are also a fall fruit. They so happen to be the star (besides the alcohol- of course) of today's post. Apple infused simple syrup, AND apple cups. Say whaaattt??  Fr**ing awesome if I say so myself.

So onward and upward to our drink on.

Apple Picking Tips: Pick the biggest apples, try to pick free standing and level apples. If your apples aren't completely level, shave bottom to make them level.

Maple Apple Toddy

Serving size 4 apple cups

  • 6 oz of Maple Whisky (4 shot glasses)
  • 9 oz of HOT water (6 shot glasses)
  • 1/4 of a fresh lemon
  • 1 oz apple simple syrup
  • Optional: Ground cloves

Apple infused simple syrup

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 apple inside
  • 1/4 of lemon juice

Apple Cups

Cut about 1/2" from the top off. This will be your cup rim. Start coring out your apple, leaving about 1" to 1/2" at the bottom. You can use a melon scope or a spoon to do this. I found the easiest way is to go around your whole apple and establish your apple rim. Then work from the core and carefully work pieces out.

*This takes a little bit of time. If you are making a bunch of these do them ahead of time. To prevent the apples from turning brown put them in a water bath with some lemon juice.

Apple infused simple syrup

  1. Using the apple meat from one cored apple, add water, lemon juice and sugar.
  2. Heat ingredients in a sauce pan until sugar dissolves.
  3. Remove from heat and slightly mash apple chunks.
  4. Strain liquid into a container. Optional: Save apple chunks for garnish later

Maple Apple Toddy

  1. Heat up water
  2. Add whisky, apple simple syrup, lemon juice and water into a pitcher. *A shake or two of ground cloves gives it an extra fall feel.
  3. Mix & Pour!

The hot liquid brings out more of the apple essence and is super cute and festive. These will warm you up in no time. I can't wait to make more this weekend.

If whisky isn't your jam (we might have to re-think this relationship- just kidding) a flavored whisky like this maple whisky, or apple might be your gateway. The maple cuts through the whisky that often turn people off. I'm telling you this drink is Amazeballs and you should try it. Plus, if your apple infused simple syrup doesn't impress your guest these apple cups sure will.

Happy Friday!
